Macau has quickly become the largest casino gambling destination in the world, taking just a couple of years to overtake Las Vegas, Nevada. In August, the revenue continued to grow in Macau, with total revenue jumping over forty percent.

The figures over the first half of 2010 have been staggering for Macau casinos. The revenue has grown to such large proportions, that casino owners and the government decided to put a stop to future growth for anything outside of already planned casino resorts.

In August, Macau casino revenue rose to billion. That was an increase of forty percent. Through the first eight months, revenue has grown sixty-three percent from the same period a year earlier. The easing of visa restrictions from residents of the China mainland has been a large reason why the revenue is increasing.

“With each passing month, it becomes more clear that Macau is the place to be for serious gamblers,” said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. “If Las Vegas wants to reclaim their throne of being the best gaming destination, there will have to be major changes, and even then, it is unlikely they will ever again top Macau.”

Asian gamblers used to travel across the world to Las Vegas to do their casino gambling. The high rollers would have most of their amenities taken care of through comps, but even the lure of free stays has not impressed Asian gamblers lately. The shorter commute to Macau has made it convenient for the high rollers to simply get away for the weekend.

The August revenue figures were actually down from the first seven months of the year. Gaming operators were expecting a slight drop in revenue for August, and analysts believe that the trend of decreasing revenue will continue through the end of the year. Even with the decline, Macau will remain millions of dollars ahead of any other gaming destination in the world.
